Environmental and respiratory physiology

Description

The lab explores the hypoxia-hyperoxia modifications in cells, animals and humans. Research areas of interest include respiratory mechanics and cardiovascular adaptations in diving, metabolic disorders and environmental stress on exercise-induced oxygen toxicity.

Clinical areas of interest are the safety of human performance in extreme environments and peri-operative quality of care in orthopedic, vascular and surgical patients. Using small experimental chambers and clinical ones the lab aims to elucidate the mechanism of action of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Recently, we are observing the link among oxygen reactive species, ischemia and bone remodeling on cells and in patients.
